ROLLER’s First Smooth Operator Workshop Kicks Off in Melbourne

Smooth Operator Workshop Melbourne Recap | ROLLER

If you’ve ever run a venue, you’ll know the feeling: your software is doing the job, but you’re not using it to its full potential. Between managing staff, staying on top of bookings, and keeping guests happy, there’s rarely time to step back and ask, “Are we really getting the most out of this?”

That’s exactly why we launched the Smooth Operator Workshop, a collaborative, hands-on session designed to give operators the time, space, and expert support to truly optimize how they use ROLLER.

Why we created this workshop

We know most platforms get set up once, then left alone for a year or more. You use what you need to, you make it through the day—but optimization? That usually doesn’t happen until something breaks.

This workshop flips that script. It gives operators a space to:

  • Audit and improve how ROLLER is set up for their unique needs
  • Ask the “Am I doing this right?” questions we rarely get to ask
  • Learn from peers who’ve solved similar challenges in different ways

It’s also where we, at ROLLER, get to listen deeply. What’s working? What’s clunky? What would make a real difference to your workflow tomorrow?

On May 28, 2025, we hosted our very first session at ROLLER’s Melbourne HQ where venue operators got to spend hands-on time with members of our Product, Solutions Engineering, and Training & Implementation teams. Here’s how it all unfolded.

Key themes and takeaways

We kicked things off at our HQ with breakfast, swag, and a room full of smooth operators ready to get hands-on.

The session focused on areas that our customers told us they needed help optimizing, including streamlining party operations, from booking to communication to execution, and exploring ways to better configure their platforms for real-world use.

Here’s what happened:

  • Operators built new capability in their platform, with the help of our product team
  • Attendees swapped ideas and set up their own follow-up meetup to keep the momentum going
  • Our team walked away with direct feedback to inform future product decisions

And across the board, people left with answers to questions they didn’t even know they had.

Building something bigger

There’s something powerful about putting operators in a room together. It unlocks stories, solutions, and creative workarounds you’d never get from a how-to video or article.

That’s what these workshops are really about: building a community of practice around running great venues. One where knowledge is shared, wins are celebrated, and challenges are tackled together.

What’s next?

Melbourne was just the beginning. We’re excited to take the Smooth Operator Workshop on the road, bringing these collaborative experiences to cities across the globe.

The goal is simple: help you get more from your tech, connect with people who walk the same path, and unlock sustainable growth.

To everyone who joined us in Melbourne, thank you for making this such a special kickoff event! We can’t wait to see what we build together next.
